In the way that I have way more hobby time than i have hobby funds, I've decided to sculpt a Hydra.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm not a fan of either the old metal Dark Elf Hydra or the new plastic kit. I wanted something that looked a little more like a multi headed serpent.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started off with a wire armature </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j19JBKY2LFo/UtMbGoZQ-yI/AAAAAAAAFkY/UTU75tkumPY/s1600/121.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j19JBKY2LFo/UtMbGoZQ-yI/AAAAAAAAFkY/UTU75tkumPY/s1600/121.JPG" title="hydra armature" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EPg8ds9-vvU/UtMbWdvkxgI/AAAAAAAAFkk/7yavhzIvpWg/s1600/122.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EPg8ds9-vvU/UtMbWdvkxgI/AAAAAAAAFkk/7yavhzIvpWg/s1600/122.JPG" title="hydra armature" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then added a layer of greenstuff to cover the armature and build into a tail.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p9uT_P7ZpIE/UtMbYOBrCRI/AAAAAAAAFkw/g7V9vkYFyiU/s1600/123.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p9uT_P7ZpIE/UtMbYOBrCRI/AAAAAAAAFkw/g7V9vkYFyiU/s1600/123.JPG" title="hydra armature- greenstuff" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-twKD3RJsYCM/UtMbYjzAOgI/AAAAAAAAFk0/Coom5ZrDRRk/s1600/124.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-twKD3RJsYCM/UtMbYjzAOgI/AAAAAAAAFk0/Coom5ZrDRRk/s1600/124.JPG" title="hydra armature- greenstuff" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Heres a couple of shots with 1999 Dark elf corsairs from the bits box for scale.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9wZWEyGsgt8/UtMbf7EVpsI/AAAAAAAAFlM/Bv8x9K_0QOM/s1600/126.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9wZWEyGsgt8/UtMbf7EVpsI/AAAAAAAAFlM/Bv8x9K_0QOM/s1600/126.JPG" title="hydra sculpt" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OA5ABe9AoCU/UtMbfhw7mLI/AAAAAAAAFlI/UPY50XS6FKY/s1600/127.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OA5ABe9AoCU/UtMbfhw7mLI/AAAAAAAAFlI/UPY50XS6FKY/s1600/127.JPG" title="Hydra sculpt with dark elfs" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since then I've been adding scales in grey stuff. I found a great tutorial over at <a href="http://www.steamforged.com/sculpting-101-scaly-skin-and-leather/" target="_blank">steamforged.com</a>. for sculpting scales. they have loads of other good tutorials in their <a href="http://www.steamforged.com/painting-and-modelling/" target="_blank">painting and modeling</a> section. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TugjX6mxjAE/UtUttxqrWLI/AAAAAAAAFlg/dXNnRtSlV7U/s1600/Snapshot_20140113.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TugjX6mxjAE/UtUttxqrWLI/AAAAAAAAFlg/dXNnRtSlV7U/s320/Snapshot_20140113.JPG" title="Hydra sculpt- scales" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've just got to do scales on the belly and necks then sculpt the heads now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

I may have a new dark elf army in the pipeline but it's just a few bits of lead in need of stripping at the moment.<br />
<br />
Anyway, today's post is a Dice Bag I made for my friend Matt, I was looking for an idea of something to make for him for Christmas. I sculpted a squig for him for his birthday and I wanted to make him something else fun.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qSIZ-inon5c/Urd0shNsHvI/AAAAAAAAFj0/jxrTBsqjjvg/s1600/DSCF3188.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qSIZ-inon5c/Urd0shNsHvI/AAAAAAAAFj0/jxrTBsqjjvg/s400/DSCF3188.JPG" title="Unsettling Dice Bag" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
The basic pattern is very simple, It is made from a circle of leather with eyelets around the edge and a draw string threaded through them. You need an even number of eyelets to make the ends tie up nicely.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-neZVF4U66rY/Urd0Tn7keyI/AAAAAAAAFjo/lJ-zF_BDyTU/s1600/bag+plan.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-neZVF4U66rY/Urd0Tn7keyI/AAAAAAAAFjo/lJ-zF_BDyTU/s1600/bag+plan.png" title="Dice bag pattern" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">very rough bag plan</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I'm not going to share how i put the eye on in this post because I forgot to take pictures, and besides the enchantments took a long time to study and I need to rest to restore my mana.<div>

I got a load of classic harlequins in a trade with <a href="http://mrsaturdaysmumblings.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Mr Saturday</a> and I'm just getting around to painting them. These are still work in progress shots and I need to come up with a basing theme for them. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: start;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nRcBosoUrJk/UaHkL5g_IrI/AAAAAAAAFec/E2BKuvnKwQo/s1600/Untitled-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="250" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nRcBosoUrJk/UaHkL5g_IrI/AAAAAAAAFec/E2BKuvnKwQo/s400/Untitled-1.png" title="Warriors of Chaos 8th edition" width="400" /></a></div>
With the warriors of chaos release a couple of months ago, I finally scraped together enough pennies to get the new rule book. I'm very disappointed. Despite the new hard cover and full colour illustrations, its a let down.<br />
Imagine for a moment that you go to the bookshop to pick up the latest cover of a favourite book, because the last one fell apart at the spine only to discover that it has been re written by Stephanie Meyer.<br />
It has gone from a good book with fantastic imagery and beautiful if disturbing illustrations to a overpriced shoddy "book of the film" merchandise tie in with painted over box photos.<br />
<br />
The Marks of chaos have been nerfed, Nurgle has lost the -1 to hit on shooting, Tzeench lost the +1 to casting and got a +1 to channelling. All the magic items full of character have hit the cutting room floor, replaced by 9 that seem to be as likely to blow up in your face as turn the tide of battle.<br />
Trolls have lost the mutant regeneration. Nurgle palanquins no longer poisonous despite nurglings in the demons of chaos list being poisonous.<br />
<br />
It feels like it has been written to maximise profits. The new eye of the gods table means you need at least a daemon prince <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440108a&prodId=prod970017a" target="_blank">£25</a> and a couple of spawn <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440111a&prodId=prod1600013" target="_blank">£25</a>. The shiny new units are very cool but need several boxes to make them work on the battle field and the Slaughterbrute that comes in at £50 that you have to buy twice.<br />
<br />
All in all, I'm very disappointed and I'm going to be going back in time to play Oldhammer where the rules are imaginatively written and the whole game is designed to be a game rather than a mangle designed to get the most cash from your pocket. Once I've had a game with the new rules I'll post again with how they play but I'm not holding out much hope.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03956807255801858885noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-763153147972168395.post-81636945946540757732013-05-21T18:01:00.000+01:002013-05-21T18:01:29.150+01:00Warhammer at the weekendOn Sunday my good friend Matt came over for a game of Warhammer. I've given up trying to beat him as every time I've played against him I've lost. He is a much more experienced general than me.<br />
With this in mind I chose an army list that I wanted to get the models out for rather than something competitive. I chose 1596pts of Chaos Dwarfs with 904 points from the old Warriors of chaos list.<br />
there was a big Troll unit with Throgg at the helm two death shrieker rockets, a hell cannon and K'daai fireborn.<br />
We tried to play a more interesting battle with a unit of bretonian bowmen defending a watchtower with an artefact in it. The Chaos Dwarfs wanted to take the item and the Dwarfs were sworn to destroy it. The luckless bowmen were stuck in the village gate house with two armies looming down on them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
At Salute 2012 James picked me up some of the '92 Big Hat chaos dwarfs with blunderbuss which he gave me yesterday. I've got 10 in total with 3 different designs. I plan to make some molds from them to make a few more figures to get a big unit. <span style="text-align: center;">I'm really pleased with them. check out James' blog </span><a href="http://plecogeek.blogspot.co.uk/" style="text-align: center;" target="_blank">here</a><br />

Having some spare funds sat in my pay-pal account I decided to treat myself to some of the Reaper Bones range from Tim at </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://miniature-heroes.co.uk/" target="_blank">Miniature Heroes</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I must say that I am really pleased with them. For £10.35 I got 6 miniatures. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ds-0xeatkVE/UWKmuzQylDI/AAAAAAAAFVk/9lV7oWSfE3c/s1600/all6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ds-0xeatkVE/UWKmuzQylDI/AAAAAAAAFVk/9lV7oWSfE3c/s400/all6.jpg" title="Reaper bones miniatures" width="382" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The cave troll I have had my eye on since it was released. I thought it would make a good base for a unit of trolls to add to a Throgg list. It matches the Bfsp troll hight wise quite well once it is mounted on a 40mm base</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_dyws8DWn7I/UWKelTfsOzI/AAAAAAAAFT4/7Ra0PQ0Bnbk/s1600/DSCF2082.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_dyws8DWn7I/UWKelTfsOzI/AAAAAAAAFT4/7Ra0PQ0Bnbk/s320/DSCF2082.JPG" title="Reaper bones Troll size comparison" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Ogre cheiftan is a nice model with plenty of detail. It has been well moulded with an interesting design adaptation for the bones line. It uses a 3 part mould to get the depth of sculpt available from a 2 part silicone mould for white metal. Here it is stood next to a bfsp troll</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UgqhBSA4DEE/UWKekeHh1cI/AAAAAAAAFTw/dI4TLVZ4eRU/s1600/DSCF2081.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UgqhBSA4DEE/UWKekeHh1cI/AAAAAAAAFTw/dI4TLVZ4eRU/s320/DSCF2081.JPG" title="Reaper Bones Ogre size comparison" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Dwarf warrior is a fantastic sculpt that I plan to use as a chaos dwarf hero. It is a touch larger than the bfsp dwarf but I plan to mount him on a rocky outcrop base to make him look more heroic. Hopefully it will make the size difference less noticeable.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SAIDi7PAZrk/UWKej58YZKI/AAAAAAAAFTo/YiX2EcZ5guY/s1600/DSCF2080.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SAIDi7PAZrk/UWKej58YZKI/AAAAAAAAFTo/YiX2EcZ5guY/s320/DSCF2080.JPG" title="Reaper Bones Dwarf size comparison" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The Bathalian I plan to turn into a Tzeentch sorcerer possibly on a disk. It matches the chaos warriors nicely for size and is very detailed. I am probably going to drill and pin the staff because it is a little floppy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FTjGnxGbXqQ/UWKenm5S-vI/AAAAAAAAFUI/BLtOVB3YTVY/s1600/DSCF2084.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FTjGnxGbXqQ/UWKenm5S-vI/AAAAAAAAFUI/BLtOVB3YTVY/s320/DSCF2084.JPG" title="Reaper Bones Bathalian size comparison" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The young dragon and giant spider were bought without a plan in mind. I will probably just paint them up for fun although I might turn them into a mount and a drider</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--8ajj2bdbj0/UWKeny98FDI/AAAAAAAAFUQ/hbV7CP3Zxw8/s1600/DSCF2085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--8ajj2bdbj0/UWKeny98FDI/AAAAAAAAFUQ/hbV7CP3Zxw8/s320/DSCF2085.JPG" title="Reaper Bones Giant Spider size comparison" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7TwfOsZIock/UWKeniDI6PI/AAAAAAAAFUM/x4JNGyQ5L24/s1600/DSCF2083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7TwfOsZIock/UWKeniDI6PI/AAAAAAAAFUM/x4JNGyQ5L24/s320/DSCF2083.JPG" title="Reaper bones young dragon size comparison " width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is a group shot with a true 28mm doctor I sculpted from an armature from <a href="http://www.ebobminiatures.com/index.htm" target="_blank">ebob miniatures</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://www.ebobminiatures.com/index.htm" target="_blank"><img alt="A rather lovecraftian party" border="0" height="312" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ebSj8O4-0cE/UWK6rxlI2KI/AAAAAAAAFV8/5o4iWPhHQEk/s640/DSCF2086.JPG" title="Reaper Bones size comparison 28mm mini" width="640" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hope all of this proves useful to someone. I'm really pleased with the Reaper bones line and can't wait for all the miniatures they developed for the kickstarter to go on general sale. I was completely skint when they were running it but there looked to be some fantastic miniatures in there. In the mean time pop over to <a href="http://miniature-heroes.co.uk/" target="_blank">Miniature Heroes</a> for all sorts of fantastic figures including their range of <a href="http://miniature-heroes.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=516_517" target="_blank">Pre Owned Citadel</a> miniatures. </div>

I sat down with my latest project, the chaotic evil warrior and decided to get it painted. I'd started once before with a black undercoat and building up red from the previous mega paint set. This failed, utterly.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
so after a soak in Fairy Power spray and a quick scrub with an old tooth brush I was back at the beginning.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I thought as it was a classic style figure I would use a classic style and dig out my vintage paints. I got these when I had just started playing and painting games workshop in the late 80's early 90's. </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FFWVt-_whDw/UU8gH-mWfKI/AAAAAAAAFRk/hwc7FUc4Hp4/s1600/DSCF1711.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FFWVt-_whDw/UU8gH-mWfKI/AAAAAAAAFRk/hwc7FUc4Hp4/s320/DSCF1711.JPG" title="Late 80's Games Workshop Paints" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These paints have done a major tour of duty the little plastic tabs to help open the pot went a long time ago but they are still liquid even after decades. It was fun to get the characteristic inverted V on your thumb again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started with a white undercoat then used a base coat of Blood Red then a Blood Angel Orange highlight and a Terracotta shade. I then used a Baal Red ink wash to add to the depth of shade</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W6ihZpkaz-g/UU8gLPa_7pI/AAAAAAAAFSI/aamgMbLoo44/s1600/DSCF1712.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W6ihZpkaz-g/UU8gLPa_7pI/AAAAAAAAFSI/aamgMbLoo44/s320/DSCF1712.JPG" title="Devlanmud's Chaos Warrior and old school paints" width="219" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had to resort to more modern paints for the spear, leather and chainmail. Metal was painted with a gunmetal with a mythril silver highlight and a Agrax Earthshade wash. For leather I used a bestial brown then a black ink wash. The gold studs were painted with Shining gold and the base got a traditional goblin green for that true retro look. It isn't perfect but I am very pleased to say that I made it from scratch- sculpted, cast, painted and based.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Coming soon: Painting a Chaotic Evil Warrior</div>

With the release of the new WoC book and miniatures I decided to dust off my WoC army and add to it but I fancied a more old school look to my figures. I can't afford classic 3rd Edition lead and don't enjoy the hassle of eBay; So I thought I would sculpt and cast my own.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The sculpting process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3UUkS5hmGUU/UQ-oaQUyUmI/AAAAAAAAFOc/CAVsalrBPns/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3UUkS5hmGUU/UQ-oaQUyUmI/AAAAAAAAFOc/CAVsalrBPns/s320/004.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started with an armature made from plastic coated copper wire that I found next to the phone junction box. It was offcuts from phone connection repairs. It is very bendy and wraps easily meaning I have to use less putty and the putty has a good surface to adhere to.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G8--ob_N36U/UQ-obqD1KGI/AAAAAAAAFOk/kjgCTA7Gda0/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G8--ob_N36U/UQ-obqD1KGI/AAAAAAAAFOk/kjgCTA7Gda0/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Basic covering of the armature using Gale force 9 Grey stuff. A two part epoxy putty like green stuff but a lot less sticky and much easier to work with. here is the armature stood next to one of my GW chaos warriors for size comparison</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U0b0OVI-7qs/UQ-ocTdv2qI/AAAAAAAAFOs/ho1rnGsuvcQ/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U0b0OVI-7qs/UQ-ocTdv2qI/AAAAAAAAFOs/ho1rnGsuvcQ/s320/007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Starting to add the details, here the figure has its boots on. I'm learning to mix grey stuff in smaller quantities and let bits cure before doing the next stage. It leads to fewer fingerprints in the finished surfaces </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vU0buQ91TmA/UQ-o1YoTdEI/AAAAAAAAFO0/IKdgqPsN4lA/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vU0buQ91TmA/UQ-o1YoTdEI/AAAAAAAAFO0/IKdgqPsN4lA/s320/003.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Up to its waist with Armour plates on the thighs and a Chain mail loin cloth. also shown are a gut plate and a skull because I had some grey stuff left.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tcv_u3tgLz0/UQ-wsaFmceI/AAAAAAAAFPM/YCO-PZfFBYw/s1600/073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tcv_u3tgLz0/UQ-wsaFmceI/AAAAAAAAFPM/YCO-PZfFBYw/s320/073.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tkq82LHpLrw/UQ-ww0REuZI/AAAAAAAAFPs/KfFAfq13dbw/s1600/078.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tkq82LHpLrw/UQ-ww0REuZI/AAAAAAAAFPs/KfFAfq13dbw/s320/078.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Nearly finished, I've just got to sculpt his halberd and put his head on</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-V6vvfn3Etxo/UQ-wtxPFDxI/AAAAAAAAFPU/_L2oJzXzvkI/s1600/075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-V6vvfn3Etxo/UQ-wtxPFDxI/AAAAAAAAFPU/_L2oJzXzvkI/s320/075.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Q68f59oo1s/UQ-wuuBfT_I/AAAAAAAAFPc/4kYNwTT3mpw/s1600/076.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Q68f59oo1s/UQ-wuuBfT_I/AAAAAAAAFPc/4kYNwTT3mpw/s320/076.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z5UeguDnrXM/UQ-wvrLxaHI/AAAAAAAAFPg/4sWwfNQ0cgM/s1600/077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z5UeguDnrXM/UQ-wvrLxaHI/AAAAAAAAFPg/4sWwfNQ0cgM/s320/077.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One chaos warrior helmet ready for ridiculously oversized horns. I've used old dressmaking pins as a starting point for the heads. the un helmeted head will have a beard and some eyes when I next have the grey stuff out. I might sculpt some more heads after I have cast this so I can have some more variety</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XalOB7smaDA/UQ-wxVthK1I/AAAAAAAAFPw/VkEtcp2NxI8/s1600/074.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XalOB7smaDA/UQ-wxVthK1I/AAAAAAAAFPw/VkEtcp2NxI8/s320/074.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A shield with rivets and a skull, I will probably add a wood grain to the back of the shield as it will be visible when assembled</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made this little critter to hold my dice after seeing a monster dice bag on <a href="http://pinterest.com/devlanmud/" target="_blank">pintrest</a> without any links other than just the image. I mostly followed this tutorial <a href="http://tallystreasury.com/2011/08/lined-dice-bags-for-all-your-polyhedral-needs/" target="_blank">at Tallys Treasury</a> until section 14. Then I added teeth made from off white felt and just sewed the red lining in behind them. This was possible because the fur fabric hides a multitude of sins stitching wise. <a href="http://feministcupcakes.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Karina</a> came up with the little bulges for the eyes then stepped in after some colourful language to actually machine them. I hand stitched the eye bulges on and added the ribbon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm really pleased with how it has turned out and I just need to name it but this little critter will have lots of fun sat at my elbow. If you have any suggestions for its name, pop it in the comments </div>

<span style="font-family: inherit;">Yesterday Matt invited me to play Warhammer doubles with two friends who were visiting from Holland Merlijn and Martin. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I thought this would be a good opportunity to get my chaos dwarf army for the first time.</span></div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">We played 1500 points each. My list included 2 units of infernal guard with fire glaves, 30 hobgoblin archers, 10 hobgoblin wolf riders, 3 k'daai fireborn, a death shrieker and a hellcannon lead by a Demonsmith sorcerer with the lore of metal. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Matt went with a big block of iron guts a small unit of leadbelchers and half a dozen ogres. his general was a slaughtermaster called Buttcrack the deep and meaningful.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vqQ-1p7LLY8/UOVmDjTutJI/AAAAAAAAFL4/sTCrAQkTw5E/s1600/039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vqQ-1p7LLY8/UOVmDjTutJI/AAAAAAAAFL4/sTCrAQkTw5E/s320/039.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">First turn as Merlijn's Reiksguard knights trot across the board in the foreground and his demigryphs head towards the gap between the lake and house in the background. </span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P_QRPGEaqlU/UOVmEk6BjKI/AAAAAAAAFMA/oRl6tl2L_2E/s1600/040.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P_QRPGEaqlU/UOVmEk6BjKI/AAAAAAAAFMA/oRl6tl2L_2E/s320/040.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A slightly blurry shot of our battle line. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3cuk12Eg5n8/UOVmFjQ7OMI/AAAAAAAAFMI/l4sN_3X7PbI/s1600/041.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3cuk12Eg5n8/UOVmFjQ7OMI/AAAAAAAAFMI/l4sN_3X7PbI/s320/041.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
the dwarf and empire battle line.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Things started going wrong for us from our first turn. Matt made a sucsessful charge against the Reiksguard knights and killed 4 routing them but leaving himself wide open to the 30 dwarf quarrellers. my hellcannon made an easy target for the combined cannons but survived long enough to take some big lumps out of the empire halberdiers. The K'daai charged the demigryph knights and held them up for a couple of turns before being wiped out by instability. Turn two saw ogres on the right flank wiped out by iron breakers who then took up residence in the building. A misfire blew up the deathshrieker. my small unit of infernal guard chose not to accept the challenge of a massively long charge into 30 crossbows and went home taking my general with them. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l6h-kdyBy6s/UOVmGsb5mKI/AAAAAAAAFMM/v7tnFEFpOqU/s1600/042.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-l6h-kdyBy6s/UOVmGsb5mKI/AAAAAAAAFMM/v7tnFEFpOqU/s320/042.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
the hobgoblins reformed to meet the ironbreakers then thought better of it and fled off the board</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UFsOLyL25u8/UOVmHVCVW4I/AAAAAAAAFMY/PGQY9KnhfmM/s1600/043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UFsOLyL25u8/UOVmHVCVW4I/AAAAAAAAFMY/PGQY9KnhfmM/s320/043.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The large unit of ironguts made short work of the empire halberdiers and then turned round to deal with the demigryphs and luminark who had minced the K'daai, 16 Infernal guard and the leadbelchers. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EscknP4cXng/UOVmIQxQT_I/AAAAAAAAFMg/nWRvx53jRLs/s1600/044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EscknP4cXng/UOVmIQxQT_I/AAAAAAAAFMg/nWRvx53jRLs/s320/044.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
with only one unit of ogres left on the battlefield, Matt charged into the massed hordes of dwarfs for total annihilation.</div>

I've been learning the guitar for a while now and I'm starting to be able to make a reasonable noise with it. So I've decided to get an electric guitar as well. What I really wanted was a Gibson SG and Marshall stack but as I'd quite like to stay married I went for the more reasonable (in volume, size and cost) encore E69 and 10W practice amp. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OkPR_vPZryI/UN98AYusBGI/AAAAAAAAFLI/8e1QLi7zhMU/s1600/e69.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OkPR_vPZryI/UN98AYusBGI/AAAAAAAAFLI/8e1QLi7zhMU/s320/e69.jpg" width="138" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It makes a wonderful racket and with enough practice I should be able to get some recognisable tunes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We also got our eldest son his first guitar, a clasical to toughen up his fingers and learn some chords on. He's got his eye on my new guitar and was wondering if I could run his through the amp.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v58OUco_Gu0/UN99fqN2sUI/AAAAAAAAFLg/lMVgLQObRTo/s1600/guitars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v58OUco_Gu0/UN99fqN2sUI/AAAAAAAAFLg/lMVgLQObRTo/s320/guitars.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We are starting to get a lot of instruments for a small flat with no sound proofing.</div>

A few days ago we got a letter home from school telling us Adam is going to be a Roman soldier in the school christmas play and please can we provide a costume. I had been browsing through <a href="http://papermau.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/legionary-and-centurion-helmets-by.html" target="_blank">papermau</a> and they had a link to a roman legionarys helmet. 16 sheets of 160gsm and 8 hours of cutting and sticking later. 1 roman helmet.</div>

Found a competition on facebook where Purbrook models send you a free miniature and you do what you can with it in a month, I received my mantic corporation marine and I think I got a mismatched pair of arms. when I put it together it looked as if he was playing a guitar solo on his rifle so an hour or so later he is. I'll get him under-coated later and painted this evening.</div>

I've finally got this unit finished. They've been lurking in the queue for far too long but I've not been doing a lot of painting or sculpting recently.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I may add more to the unit once I've tried them out on the field of battle, they are labour intensive to make.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I need to get a game using my chaos dwarves, they are as yet untested even though I've been working on them since January.</div>

In my post <a href="http://devlanmud.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/a-gift-from-bolg.html" target="_blank">A gift from Bolg</a> I mentioned that I was taking part in a miniature exchange on Chaos Dwarfs Online and here is the miniature I sculpted and painted for Blue in VT. Check out his work here <a href="http://bluesmarauders.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Blue's Marauding Miniatures</a>. He collects the old MM90's chaos dwarfs so I tried to sculpt something that would fit in with his collection. I started with a Battle for skull pass dwarf as a base then hacked off the arms, shield and head. My initial plan was to arm him with a great weapon but I changed my mind while sculpting to do a banner bearer as it would give me a greater chance for painting. The banner is Blue's Avatar on CDO. I've been waiting ages to show this miniature off but I didn't want to spoil the surprise. </div>

<span style="text-align: start;">This is my first real go at painting a lava effect. I started with an undercoat of Army Painter </span><a href="http://shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=2" style="text-align: start;" target="_blank">Desert Yellow Spray</a><span style="text-align: start;"> then a heavy dry brush with Macharius Solar Orange then I filled in the interior of the scales with thinned Dark Flesh and finally Charadon Granite to finish off. I did try adding a further coat of chaos black but it didn't work so I went back to Charadon Granite.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Nearly finished</div>

<span style="text-align: start;">While </span><a href="http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/K'DAAI_FIREBORN.html" style="text-align: start;" target="_blank">Warhammer Forge</a><span style="text-align: start;"> make great K'daai Fireborn, I don't have £36.00 for 3 models. I do however have lots of hobby time to fill, grey stuff and troll molds which look like this when mixed together.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ACpBv1eX1Uw/UFQ7tA6IuII/AAAAAAAAFEg/o3kJURXNRZQ/s1600/DSCF0629.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ACpBv1eX1Uw/UFQ7tA6IuII/AAAAAAAAFEg/o3kJURXNRZQ/s320/DSCF0629.JPG" width="211" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X3P8ghIBuGo/UFQ7uWAMXjI/AAAAAAAAFEo/mep5BjPPSJs/s1600/DSCF0630.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X3P8ghIBuGo/UFQ7uWAMXjI/AAAAAAAAFEo/mep5BjPPSJs/s320/DSCF0630.JPG" width="194" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2GVXJ1NiIV4/UFQ7vTENH3I/AAAAAAAAFEw/rochVq6pzTY/s1600/DSCF0631.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2GVXJ1NiIV4/UFQ7vTENH3I/AAAAAAAAFEw/rochVq6pzTY/s320/DSCF0631.JPG" width="204" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once I'd got the face so I was happy with it, I decided to save some effort with a spot of <a href="http://www.heroesandlegendsgames.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=58_142&product_id=570" target="_blank">Instant Mold</a> I've not tryed Instant Mold with Grey stuff which is why I've used Green stuff. I've not quite finished the one on the left, I'd left the grey stuff a little too long to get the flames to work last night so I stripped it off to try again later. </div>

Here are the Warhammer 40,000 bases I cast recently with models stood on them. I've got molds with heads and arms in production but I've run out of RTV silicone so I need to pop down to Brentford for some more. until I've got some more this project is in a bit of a holding pattern.<br />
